Starting November 29, you can visit the Publishers for Palestine website and find links to free books, zines, and writers to support. You’ll also want to join the marathon 24-hour Global Reading for Freedom of Expression and Solidarity with Palestine, starting November 29.
We also recommend:
- Do outreach to other groups engaged in solidarity work and/or in literary scenes and ask them to circulate information about Read Palestine Week (RPW) on their listservs. Ask them to stage their own event to support Palestinian artists and stories.
- Ask your local bookstore, community group, library, community centre, social space, school, etc. to create a window display featuring Palestinian authors and books.
- Organize public readings in malls, metro stations, bus stops, community centres, libraries, bookstores, sidewalks, universities, schools, the possibilities are endless!
- Ask your local library/bookshop to participate in a public reading.
- Ask your student union or society to host an event at your school or a local hangout where students gather.
- Bring your book club together to read and discuss one of the texts made available by members of Publishers for Palestine Palestinian literature.
- Stage an outdoor projection of Palestinian authors reading their work on a public wall. Reach out for links to authors reading their work and see our instructions on how to stage a reading.
- Host a gathering at your place, your student club, your writing group, your sports club etc. to screen videos of writers from Gaza reading their work. We recommend screening PalFest’s “Poets in Gaza” series.
- Print and share our And Still We Write zine.
- We encourage everyone staging readings to make any of these events a fundraiser for Palestine relief work. Places for donations, in addition to supporting individual writers: The Sameer Project, Medical for Palestine or The Children’s Relief Fund.
